Small Charities Week

SGSG joins National Celebration for Small Charity Week 2025

This Small Charity Week (23–28 June), St Giles & St George is proud to join a national celebration of the vital role small charities play in communities across the UK.  This year’s campaign shines a spotlight on financial resilience, recognising the incredible efforts of small charities to keep delivering, even as costs rise and funding falls.

Small Charity Week highlights the essential work of the UK’s small charity sector (defined as charities with annual income less than £1 million), which supports millions of people and communities every day.  In fact, 95% of ALL charities are small (categorised as micro, small and medium in the UK Civil Society Almanac 2024) but the big national ones are often more well-known.

St Giles & St George Alms and Education charities are both small – we have a combined income of approximately £600,000.  Currently, the Education charity is providing a mixture of one-off and multi-year funding to 20 different charitable organisations, and 15 of them (75%) are small charities.  The Alms charity is currently supporting 9 charitable organisations and 8 of them (88%) are small charities.  We are proud to be part of this collective effort to recognise the power of small charities in our local communities.

Hazel Capper, Clerk to the Trustees of St Giles & St George, said:

“Small charities are the beating heart of our sector and the communities we serve but we know many are now under extraordinary pressure – costs are rising, income is falling, and demand for their support is growing.  As a small local funder ourselves, we work closely with our grantees and offer flexible project and multi-year funding to meet their needs and help them become financially resilient.”
