Education Grants

“SGSG care deeply about serving the local community and supporting schools to deliver impactful work for children and families.”

“There is a really good balance between being clear and directive but also being flexible.  Extremely appreciated during the pandemic when we couldn’t always deliver as we had planned.”

Education Grants

We’re investing in the future of local children & young people.  We create positive change by funding a wide range of learning and educational opportunities that enable children & young people to build their aspirations, skills and confidence – at home, with their family, at school and within their local community. Our priority is to focus on where the need is greatest.

Our mission is to provide funding and support that will enable grantee organisations to better achieve their mission.

For examples of what we fund, please see our grants programme and current grants below.

We fund not-for-profit organisations (including charities, schools, churches and social enterprises) delivering activities that support our mission to children and young people from birth to 25 years old.  We do fund Community Interest Companies and social enterprises but there are additional requirements.

We can only provide funding to support children and young people who are resident in or educated in our area of benefit (Covent Garden and south Westminster – see map).  Your organisation does not need to be based in this area, but your beneficiaries do.

We will fund universal and targeted initiatives that fall under our five broad themes.

  • Children & Families – focus on younger children and their parents.
  • Education & Learning – supporting attainment, enhancing the curriculum and learning new skills.
  • Emotional Well-Being – looking after children’s emotional and mental health.
  • Youth Activities – clubs and activities that older children attend on their own.
  • Christian Education – reflecting our historic roots.

We have several different grants programmes.

Small Grants – Max £3,600 for a revenue or capital grant
Project Grants – Max £12,000 for a revenue or capital grant
Community Investment Grant (CIG) – Max £18,500 per annum for up to three years
Partnership Grant – Between £20 – £50,000 per annum for up to three years

Small Grant applications can be submitted at any time and we expect to make a decide within six weeks.

Project Grant and CIG applications should be submitted by 7 pm on our quarterly grants’ deadline (set about 5–6 weeks before our Trustee meetings):

  • Monday 15 December 2025
  • Monday 16 March 2026
  • Monday 8 June 2026
  • Monday 28 September 2026
  • Monday 14 December 2026

BEFORE you apply for funding, please read our detailed grant guidelines.

Please apply using the online application form.  It is the same for all grants but you have to answer more questions to receive more funding.

For one-off projects or small community initiatives:

  • Environmental education initiatives
  • School enrichment activities (usually in partnership with an external provider)
  • Children’s activities at community events and festivals
  • Christian Education such as Sunday School or Messy Church

For delivering activities regularly (ie, weekly) for a set period of time (from a few weeks up to a whole year):

  • Enrichment programme in a school or youth-setting
  • Environment education programme
  • Community sports provision
  • After-school and youth programmes
  • Employability programme
  • After-school and homework clubs
  • Open access youth provision
  • Under 5’s play activity
  • Youth mentoring
  • Arts and creative therapy
  • SEND youth club
  • Music programme
  • Family support

However, CIGs are only available to organisations who:

  • have already received funding from us within the last three years, AND
  • can demonstrate a strong commitment to the local area through consistent service delivery and participation in local networks and partnerships.

Unfortunately, CIGs are not usually available to schools or projects working in a school setting.

This is a discretionary programme to address strategic priorities.  If you have an idea for a possible project, then please send a short outline of your idea to the Clerk to start further conversations.  Please do not send unsolicited applications.

Below is a list of projects we are currently funding.
